Sedako The Origami Crane is a work of art based on an ancient Japanese tradition, a thousand paper cranes will return good health. This artwork is an artistic exploration of the resilience of the human spirit, the pursuit of dreams, and the belief in the transformative power of hope that, amid life’s uncertainties, our dreams can fly. The artwork depicts the true story of a brave Hiroshima girl named Sedako who was two years old when the atomic bomb was dropped, developed leukemia, and died ten years later. Sadako never lost faith and determination as she battled the disease, she managed to create 644 cranes before her life came to an end. The origami crane stands on a simple and understated base, evoking a feeling of weightlessness and freedom. It symbolizes hope, peace and longevity. Around the piece, the explosion of vibrant and expressive squiggly lines in a myriad of colors seems to come to life, adding a sense of movement and energy to the artwork, which flows with a seemingly spontaneous rhythm, evoking a sense of joyous freedom and creative exploration to remind us of the power of choosing peace over war.
